Colette holds a Masters degree in Art Therapy from Lasalle College of the Arts, Singapore. She is a registered professional member of The Australian, New Zealand and Asian Creative Arts Therapies Association (ANZACATA), Art Therapists’ Association Singapore (ATAS), British Association of Art Therapists (BAAT) and HCPC (Health and Care Professions Council) in the UK.
Colette’s journey into art therapy began from her own experiences as an artist, with her strong belief in the power and discovery that the art making process holds. Contextualising her knowledge of art history, Colette has always been fascinated by how art can be used as a non-verbal medium of personal expression and how it can augment the therapeutic process. This led her to pursue a career where she could combine her love for art with her desire to help others. Having trained in psychodynamic psychotherapy, Colette takes on a person-centred, attachment informed approach to support her client’s journey. Colette has gained valuable experience working with diverse multicultural populations, in private clinical and international school settings including children, adolescents and adults facing a wide spectrum of psychological challenges such as anxiety and depression, grief and loss, emotionally based school avoidance and eating disorders as well with children with inherent physiological conditions such as Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy. These experiences have strengthened her understanding of the unique role that art therapy plays in helping individuals explore their emotions, develop coping strategies and improve their overall mental health. Colette tailors’ sessions to meet the specific needs of each individual, in order to create a safe and supportive environment.
Colette’s values lay within empowering individuals whilst supporting growth, transformation and awareness through the art making process.
Colette’s experiences as an art therapist as well as a practicing and professional artist have guided her journey, on how art can be utilized in discovering one’s self, and the potential it holds in a therapeutic and insightful mental health capacity. As it was through art, that Colette found her own voice.
